The 30th edition of the annual Egyptian Marathon returns in January 2023 with four major race categories and other minor activities open for amateur and professional runners. Local and international runners can join the race and kick start their global marathon journey with events accredited by the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
Run Through Egypt’s History
The Egyptian Marathon is the oldest ongoing marathon in Africa and the Middle East. It has been held regularly for 30 years now, always welcoming athletes from all walks of life and introducing the historical landmarks of Egypt.
The 30th edition will offer four major race courses and categories to cater to athletes of different skill levels. Athletes categorized under the Male, Female, Open, and Masters division categories can join any of the four courses:
- Marathon (AIMS measure – 42.195 km)
- LuxorRun (22.289 km)
- Ramsis Run & Walk (12.336 km)
- Hatshepsut Run & Walk (5 km)
The organizer also prepared unique special events for athletes belonging to specific groups: Inline Skate for runners who can compete in rollerblades and Wheelchair Race for athletes with special needs.
The 30th Egyptian Marathon is accredited by the Abbott World Marathon Majors, so participants can collect points to be included in future Major Marathons events on top of their physical awards on site.
Timing and Location
The 30th Egyptian Marathon takes place on January 13, 2023, in Egypt’s most historic city, Luxor. The event starts at the historic temple of Queen Hatshepsut and goes through multiple ancient locations, such as the temple of Habou, the temple of Amenophis, the Colossi of Memnon, and more.
